About me

Professor Alex Ford qualified from the University of Leeds in 1997. During his registrar training he conducted a 2-year period of research funded by the Medical Research Council, obtaining an MD from Leeds University. From October 2007 to September 2008 he completed a sabbatical year in the Gastroenterology Division of McMaster University Medical Centre, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and was appointed as a Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist at St. James’s University Hospital, Leeds in January 2010.

Professor Alex Ford is married, and lives in Leeds. He enjoys reading literature, listening to music and has a passion for travelling, ever since he explored South Africa extensively whilst on his medical elective as a final year student. In a 4-month break between jobs in 1998 he took the opportunity to visit Chile, Peru, Argentina, Australia, and Hong Kong. During his time as a research fellow, he travelled around the South Island of New Zealand for 1 month. More recently he has backpacked around Cambodia and Vietnam, spent 2 weeks exploring Japan, and 1 month travelling in the Malaysian peninsula and Malaysian Borneo. Whilst a clinical fellow in Canada he toured the country extensively, visiting Québec, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
