About me
I am Professor of Urology at University College London. I specialise in precision diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer tailored to an individuals cancer characteristics with a view to minimising side effects without jeopardising the chance of cure. I have authored over 100 research papers and been awarded prizes for my work by the European, Japanese and British associations of urology. I lead the urology cancer team at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust, the highest volume pelvic surgery centre in the UK and recently voted by Newsweek magazine as the best urology department in Europe. I have performed the most robotic radical prostatectomies at UCLH for each of the past 8 years and my caseload is amongst the highest in the UK. I believe that robotic prostatectomy is the best way to cure prostate cancer and that the side effects from treatment can be minimised. I work hard to achieve this by developing and testing new techniques.
I lead an international randomised clinical trial of the NeuroSAFE technique which increases post- surgical sexual potency rates by promoting safe nerve sparing at robotic radical prostatectomy. The results of this trial have recently been published in lancet oncology and are regarded as game changing by the European association of urology providing proof of the effectiveness of the neurosafe procedure in increasing sexual potency after radical prostatectomy.

I was the first to describe a technique called complete urethral preservation which results in rapid post operative urinary continence to the same extent as Retzius sparing surgery but without jeopardising cancer control. This allows patients to resume work, exercise and other normal activities soon after surgery.
I have a very low complication rate, since starting robotic prostatectomy as a consultant in 2015, over 1300 patients- 0% major (clavien 3 or above) complications.
I have a strong track record of leadership and research in prostate cancer. I lead several national trials designed to investigate ways of improving outcomes for men with prostate cancer. I completed the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in robotic surgery and was trained at Cambridge University where I worked for 5 years as a Lecturer. I led the NIHR (research arm of the NHS) for urology research in the North Thames region for 7 years.

I am happy to conduct telephone and video consults where preferable and look after patients from all over the world.
I am known for my work in scrutinising the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated and have featured in front page UK broadsheet headlines and national television news for this work.

I pride myself on maintaining strong relationships with the patients I treat and many are prepared to talk with people contemplating surgery under my care.
My work regularly features in the press.
