About me

Dr Peter Dickinson graduated from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 2004 and undertook his specialist Clinical Oncology Training in Nottingham, followed by a radiotherapy research fellowship at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. He was appointed as a Consultant at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in 2013. He worked as Clinical Lead for Radiotherapy for six years and then as Clinical Lead of Clinical Oncology. He is author and co-author on number of peer reviewed research publications and teaches at national and international meetings. He is a member of the Royal College of Radiologists Professional Support and Standards Board, and acts as the Radiotherapy Quality and Safety Advisor to that board.

Dr Dickinson specialises in the treatment of lung cancer and the use of stereotactic radiotherapy to treat metastatic cancer. He offers radiotherapy to metastases in areas of the body which have been treated with radiotherapy previously. He is a key member of the Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) team at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust and helped to set up oligometastatic radiotherapy service, which focuses upon the treatment of early-stage metastasis. Dr Dickinson is a member of the GenesisCare national Stereotactic Radiotherapy Advisory Team.

Dr Dickinson is trained to treat patients with stereotactic radiotherapy on the MRLinac. This is a state of the art radiotherapy machine which delivers MRI guided treatment where the radiotherapy plan is adjusted daily by a consultant. This technology is particularly useful when treating tumour which are difficult to see on CT, mobile tumours, tumours close to critical organs, and when treating an area of the body which has received radiotherapy previously.
