About me
Mr Gregory Firth is a highly experienced Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in children, including both elective orthopaedic conditions and trauma-related injuries. He is based at the Children's Orthopaedic Practice at The Portland Hospital in London and also holds a consultant position at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in Kent.
Mr Firth qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in South Africa in 2009 and went on to complete two prestigious paediatric orthopaedic fellowships in Canada and Australia in 2010 and 2011, respectively. He achieved CESR equivalence in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the UK in 2020.
From 2011 to 2018, Mr Firth served as Head of the Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit at Baragwanath Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the world, where he led the development and expansion of the paediatric service. During this time, he also managed a successful private practice in Johannesburg.
Mr Firth treats a wide range of paediatric orthopaedic conditions, including:
- Hip dysplasia
- Congenital and developmental limb conditions
- Paediatric fractures and trauma
- Gait abnormalities
- Clubfoot and flatfoot deformities
Mr Firth has a strong academic background and a passion for clinical research. He completed a Master's project on developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in 2008 and led the creation of a paediatric orthopaedic research team in South Africa. He is currently an honorary lecturer at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and continues to supervise postgraduate orthopaedic research.
He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to multiple randomised controlled trials as a local principal investigator. His work has been recognised with numerous awards, including best-presented paper and research training fellowships. He is also an active member and editorial contributor to several international orthopaedic societies.
