About me
Mr Simon Wimsey is a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand, wrist and elbow conditions. He is committed to delivering highly individualised care, managing each patient's condition in a structured and logical way, and ensuring that treatment plans are tailored to their specific needs.
Over the last 13 years he has built up a busy and well respected private practice spanning, Hertfordshire, Essex and London. He places strong emphasis on clear communication, providing detailed explanations of all available treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical. The majority of patients he sees do not require surgery, as many conditions can be effectively managed with conservative treatments such as physiotherapy, splinting, massage, stretching exercises, warm wax therapy, acupuncture, ultrasound and shockwave therapy.
Mr Wimsey has extensive surgical experience, having performed more than 15,000 operations. He manages a high clinical workload, seeing approximately 3000 patients in clinic and performing close to 600 procedures annually. His practice covers the full range of upper limb conditions, including complex cases requiring nerve, tendon, bone and arterial grafting. He routinely uses magnification or microscopy during surgery to ensure precision and to protect delicate anatomical structures.
His expertise includes carpal tunnel surgery (both primary and revision), treatment of peripheral nerve entrapments, Dupuytren's disease (including open fasciectomy and minimally invasive techniques such as needle fasciotomy and collagenase injections), arthritis management and joint replacement, ligament and tendon reconstruction, trauma and sports injuries, as well as minimally invasive keyhole surgery of the wrist and elbow. He also specialises in advanced reconstructive procedures, including tendon transfers and vascularised grafting techniques.
Mr Wimsey graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in 2000 and completed both his basic and higher surgical training in Wessex. He undertook an AO Trauma Fellowship in Grenoble, France, where he developed expertise in managing complex upper limb trauma. He later completed a sports medicine fellowship in Perth, Western Australia, working with elite athletes and gaining experience in endoscopic peripheral nerve surgery. This was followed by further specialist training in Sydney at the Royal North Shore Hospital, where he developed advanced skills in microsurgery, brachial plexus surgery and congenital hand conditions.
