About me
I am a Consultant Cardiologist based in Bath and Bristol with a specialist interest in complex angioplasty. I work full time for the NHS at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. I also provide remote virtual consultations from The National Heart Clinic that is based on Harley Street, London. The investigations can be performed in the Harley Street clinic, or sent to your home (e.g. heart rhythm and blood pressure monitors).
I provide a contemporary, evidence-based service, which is patient focused, to investigate and treat a broad range of cardiovascular problems. These include the investigation and management of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and fainting.
My sub-specialty is coronary intervention using wires, balloons and stents to treat narrowings within coronary arteries. I am a high volume operator and perform the majority (94%) of my cases through the radial artery, which is proven to be the safest route. I have an excellent outcome and safety record with a complication rate below those predicted in the British Cardiovascular Interventional Society (BCIS) statistical model (1.4% vs. 2.6% predicted).
The most important person during any investigation or procedure is always the patient and I am strongly engaged with governance and quality improvement to ensure that teams work effectively to provide the best patient care possible. This includes all forms of communication throughout.
I am closely involved in the education and training of Junior Doctors and contribute to a number of National and International research trials and registries. I was the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) Treasurer and served on Council and the BCIS Training and Education Group for 12 years. BCIS is the national society responsible for training the next generation of interventional cardiologists.
Outside work, I am a keen sportsman and cycle, swim and run regularly. I have run many half and full marathons, cycled London to Paris and completed several triathlons. In 2025 I completed the 297km Dragon ride in Wales and this year I have entered the Fred Whitton challenge. I have 5 children and spend as much time as possible with them and my wife, Jacqui.
