About me
Dr Laura Pearse, MBChB BSc(Hons)Phys MRCPsych DOccMed is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist who trained in Medicine at Sheffield University having already completed a three year Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology at Southampton University. The majority of her psychiatric training was completed in Cambridge with the East of England Deanery, before moving to the Wessex area.
Dr Pearse has a full unrestricted licence to practice and is committed to continuing professional development and is appraised every year by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (Certificate of good standing) and the GMC (General Medical Council). She holds full membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is registered on the GMC specialist register license to practice in general adult psychiatry. She is also one of the very few Occupational Psychiatrists in the country. She has recently published her research on psychotic symptoms in Borderline Personality Disorder and has contributed to postgraduate teaching publications.
Dr Pearse has been teaching as part of the undergraduate team for medical students with Southampton University and provides educational lecture services to GPs on mental health areas. She is also a guest lecturer at the Society of Occupational Medicine regional meetings.
Dr Pearse listens and gently explores the symptoms present before applying exceptional diagnostic skills to work out exactly what the problems are. Her aim is to achieve complete recovery, but also advising how to enhance the patients quality of life going forward. Individual treatment plans are formulated in collaboration with the patient, allowing plenty of time for explanation and questions. Treatments may consist of medication, referral for psychological therapy and or lifestyle advice.
Dr Pearse understands that visiting a psychiatrist for the first time can be daunting, which is completely normal and expected. Her aim is to build a solid trusting relationship with the patient on their road to recovery.
Areas of interest
Dr Pearse has experience of working in acute and community psychiatry for adults of working age. She has expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of common and severe mental disorders.
