Research interests

Mr Dincer Aktuerk’s research interests focus on advancing minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery, with particular emphasis on improving clinical outcomes, enhancing surgical precision, and accelerating patient recovery. His work explores the application of robotic technology in complex mitral and tricuspid valve repair, coronary revascularisation, and hybrid procedures, as well as strategies to expand patient eligibility for less invasive approaches. He is also interested in optimising perioperative pathways, reducing complications, and evaluating long-term outcomes compared with conventional surgery. Through clinical innovation and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, his research aims to further establish robotic cardiac surgery as a standard of care for selected patients.

Personal interests

Outside of his clinical practice, Mr Aktuerk has a strong interest in international collaboration and regularly travels to support the development of cardiac surgery programmes overseas, helping to establish and advance minimally invasive and robotic techniques in emerging centres. He is also a keen tennis enthusiast, enjoying the sport both recreationally and as a way to maintain an active and balanced lifestyle.

Awards received

He was recently awarded the esteemed Consultant Team Scholarship by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland (SCTS) to support education and training in minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery at Barts Heart Centre.
