About me

The Kent Orthopaedic Practice is owned and run by Prof Bijayendra Singh, fondly known as Bijay or BJ. He is an award-winning and leading upper limb surgeon in Kent and the South East of England. Prof. Singh specialises in the management of problems related to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand joints, performing one of the largest number of shoulder joint replacements across the country.
I am a consultant in Upper Limb Orthopaedics with over 30 years of experience, dedicated to helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life. Since 2007, I have been providing care to patients across Kent and the South East of England, focusing exclusively on shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions. My practice combines extensive clinical expertise with the latest surgical techniques to deliver personalized, evidence-based care.
I see and treat patients in a number of locations in Kent, allowing you to arrange an appointment at a place and time convenient to you.
Currently working for the NHS and private sector, I specialise in the management of upper limb orthopaedic conditions and trauma surgery relating to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand joints.
I am available for private consultations at the Kent Institute of Medicine & Surgery, Lyca Health, Orpington and Spire Alexandra Hospital.

My Journey
I began my medical career earning my degree from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, India, where I first developed an interest in upper limb orthopaedics through my thesis on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
I pursued advanced training in the UK and completed prestigious fellowships at globally renowned institutions, including:
Perth Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Centre (Australia)
Kleinert & Kutz Hand Institute (USA)
Orthopaedic Associates at Baptist Hospital (USA)
These experiences honed my expertise and introduced me to cutting-edge techniques that I now bring to my patients every day.

What I Do
Performing over 800 procedures annually, I specialize in both routine and complex cases. My expertise includes:
Shoulder: Rotator cuff tears, impingement, arthritis, frozen shoulder, and dislocations.
Elbow: Tennis elbow, Golfer's elbow, Elbow Arthritis, and Trapped Nerve.
Wrist & Hand: Carpal tunnel syndrome, Finger and Wrist arthritis, Trigger Finger, Ganglion cysts, and Dupuytren's contracture.
Trauma: Complex upper limb fractures requiring advanced surgical management.
With a commitment to shared decision-making, I ensure each patient receives a tailored treatment plan that aligns with their needs and goals.

Teaching & Research
Education and research are integral to my practice. As a Visiting Professor at Canterbury Christchurch University and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, I am dedicated to mentoring the next generation of surgeons.
Over 100 publications in national and international journals.
120+ presentations at leading medical conferences.
Faculty member of the F.R.C.S. (Orth) Course and examiner at GKT Medical School.
Whether through lectures, hands-on training, or mentorship, I am passionate about advancing the field of upper limb orthopaedics. I enjoy engaging with medical students, trainees, and even aspiring medics in secondary schools, offering insights into a career in medicine and guidance through mock interviews as well promoting work experience for sixth form students.

Beyond Medicine
Outside of the operating theatre, I enjoy spending time with my wife, a GP, and our two daughters. I am passionate about cooking (especially perfecting my Butter Chicken recipe), cycling, and gardening. At home, our lively discussions keep us engaged and often inspire new perspectives.
