Profile

Mr Cooper is a graduate of Cambridge University.  He undertook his basic surgical training in London, culminating in two years research into the molecular biology of varicose veins and award of a Master or Surgery thesis from the University of London.  He continues an academic interest with many papers published in peer reviewed journals and numerous presentations at national and international meetings.His higher surgical training was based both in the North East Thames and East of England Deaneries, where he obtained a broad based experience of both General and Vascular Surgery.  He returned to Addenbrookes' Hospital, Cambridge, as a Senior Registrar where he completed his subspecialty training in complex vascular and endovascular surgery.  He was appointed as a Consultant at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust in August 2008.Since his appointment he has been actively involved in the development of the Endovascular Aneurysm Repair programme in Gloucestershire for both abdominal aortic and popliteal aneurysms.  Furthermore, he is lead clinician for the provision of acute catheter directed thrombolysis in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis, another life threatening condition.  he maintains a busy practice in the management of all vascular conditions including diabetic feet, ischaemic limbs, carotid disease, the provision of renal access for dialysis and management of venous disease including venous ulceration and varicose veins.  

He was appointed as Clinical Lead for the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Network in 2018.
