About me

I am an experienced general Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. I have been a consultant in the NHS for 20 years

My clinical special interests are Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders such as ASD, ADHD and Tourettes alongside anxieties including OCD and school attendance problems asw well as problematic mood difficulties. I am ADI and ADOS trained and able to assess and diagnose for autistic spectrum disorders in conjunction with colleagues. My higher child psychiatry training was very comprehensive enabling me to gain skills and treat patients across the different therapies CBT Play Therapy and Family Therapy. I have an additional diploma in systemic and family therapy from the institute of family therapy. My preferred therapeutic way of working with children, families and adolescents is holistic, systemic and psycho-educational incorporating techniques from CBT mindfulness and NVR. I only use psychotropic medication where there is a mental health need and other therapeutic strategies have not succeeded.
I have played a major role in developing services for Children with Severe Learning Disabilities and Autism in Brighton and more recently across Sussex, providing second opinions around LD and ASD for colleagues. Including setting up and running Sussex Partnership CAMHS LD practitioners network.

I am currently the named doctor for safeguarding in Brighton and Hove with responsibilities to the LSBC health advisory group.

I am involved in re validation and am an appraiser for consultant colleagues. I have been trained in revalidation and appraisal, which I undertake as a regular part of my job plan.

In my NHS job. I am also an educational supervisor and have higher specialist trainees from the St Georges Child and Adolescent Psychiatry scheme. I am QUESP trained (2009).
