About me

I qualified as a doctor from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1997 having also achieved a BSc Hons degree in immunopathology. I worked on the liver transplant unit at the Royal free and then rotated through most medical specialities over the next 4 years (both in the UK and in Australia) in a variety of teaching hospitals and district generals. Two years of this junior training was on the highly sort after Oxford Medical rotation.

I became a specialist registrar in gastroenterology and general medicine in 2001 and during this 7 year training I had two years as a research fellow in Oxford and achieved a Doctorate of Medicine degree (MD).

I was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist and general physician in 2008 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust and continue to practice there and at the private Duchy Hopital in Truro.

I have a broad gastroenterology practice looking after a full range of gastrointestinal disorders.

I also have subspecialty interests in Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and endoscopy. I am the IBD lead for Royal Cornwall Hospital. I am an accredited bowel cancer screener in the National Bowel Cancer screening programme. As a result I often undertake complex endoscopic polypectomy.

Areas of interest

Techniques: Colonoscopy (National Bowel Cancer Screening accredited); gastroscopy; enteroscopy and capsule enteroscopy.

Conditions: Inflammatory bowel disease; irritable bowel syndrome; dyspepsia and reflux; coeliac; small bowel disease; food intolerance.
