Research interests
I have served, and continue to serve as the project investigator (PI) on several landmark intervention studies of medications for rhinitis, nasal polyps, sinusitis and asthma.
The data has led to intervention with novel medications in current practice for patients. I am also a trained scientist, and am actively involved in basic science research to understand inflammation, immune regulation and tissue remodeling in airway allergy and inflammatory syndromes.
Personal interests
I am an avid aviation enthusiast with a deep passion for all aspects of aircraft, aviation, and air travel.
Additionally, I have a strong interest in exploring historical sites and aspire to pursue a degree in history in the near future.

Courses offered to GPs
Dr Kariyawasam is the Director of the Advanced Medical Rhinology course at UCL.
He is actively involved in regular GP seminars and tutorials on the management of rhinitis, sinusitis, allergy medicine including food allergy, anaphylaxis and asthma.
This is in addition to his teaching at UCL Medical School and post graduate courses in Allergy and Respiratory Medicine.
