About me
Dr. Sonal Shankar is a UK qualified Consultant Dermatologist, having gained her medical degree from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guys' and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1995. She has been an NHS consultant since 2005, undertaking her dermatology training at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist at Medway NHS Foundation Trust in 2006 and was both a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for dermatology trainees. She held an Honorary Dermatology Consultant post at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. From 2019 � 2022 she worked as a Consultant Dermatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She has held a Consultant Dermatologist position at Kent Integrated Dermatology Service since 2019.
She has published papers in peer reviewed journals, engaged in research projects and has been a reviewer for scientific journals. She has won a British Society for Dermatological Surgery award and has also presented at national and international conferences.
She accepts referrals from adults and children, consulting on a wide variety of dermatological conditions such as moles, skin cancers, hair and scalp disorders and inflammatory conditions including eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea. She undertakes skin surgery to remove benign and cancerous lesions, cryotherapy for warts and pre-cancerous skin lesions and photodynamic therapy for some types of skin cancer and pre-cancerous conditions.
She is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, the British Society of Paediatric Dermatology and the British Medical Association and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.
