About us

Dr Hughes has extensive experience in treating Musculoskeletal and Sport related Injuries.
He has worked across a diverse range of elite sport teams and clubs. He was team doctor to the World Champion England Women’s Rugby team and has worked with England Rugby u18s , UK Athletics, Harlequins Rugby and Chelsea Football Club Academy. He worked for several years with the Ministry of Defence at DMCR Headley Court where he specialised in Complex Trauma Injury Rehabilitation. He was the lead Consultant of the Elite Sports Injuries clinic there.

Dr Hughes delivers an expert Sports Medicine opinion on Knee injuries, Hip and Groin pain, Neck and Back pain and Foot and ankle injuries. He has sub speciality interests in tendinopathy management, running injuries, stress fractures and adolescent sports injuries. His uses a team approach working with the patient and physical therapy team using the same rehabilitation principles used in elite sport. He is experienced in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound and works closely with leading Musculoskeletal radiologists. Dr Hughes sees a high case load of tendinopathies including Achilles, patella, plantar facia and tennis elbow. He works closely with the physiotherapy teams and is experienced in the use of shockwave therapy, High Volume injections and Platelet Rich Plasma.

Dr Hughes is a leader in his speciality. He has been Vice President of the Faculty (FSEM), Chairman of the Royal College Specialist Advisory Committee for SEM and has been involved in the education of the next generation of consultants for several years. He is an excellent communicator with colleagues and patients. He lectures on and promotes his specialty nationally and internationally.
