About me
Dr Ian Harley BSc MD FRCOG
Ian Harley is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist at the Northern Ireland Regional Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital.
He graduated in Medicine from the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1993, entering the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) training programme in the Northern Ireland Deanery in 1995. In 2003-2006 he left Northern Ireland to train as a Gynaecological Oncologist at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Ian was awarded a Postgraduate Medical Doctorate (MD) from the Queen’s University, Belfast in 2008 for his original research into hereditary ovarian cancer. He was appointed a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at the Belfast City Hospital in 2008. In 2013 he was awarded an Honorary Lectureship at the Queen’s University Belfast and is a member of the Ovarian Cancer research group at the University’s Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology. He is the University of West Indies(UWI) / International Gynae. Cancer Society overseas mentor and an extern examiner for the UWI gynaecological oncology Fellowship.
Ian’s interests include Minimal Access Surgery in Gynaecology and Oncology, Hereditary Gynaecological Cancers and Translational Research in Ovarian Cancer. He is a member of Faculty for the Olympus Minimal Access Surgery Fellowship. He has many journal publications and presents at regional, national and international meetings.
Despite all of the above, Ian’s main interest is his family – wife Kim and two sons: Angus and Callum. Ian’s passion - spending as much free time sailing, travelling and skiing with his family and friends.
