About me

Professor Lee Jeys
MB ChB, MSc (Ortho. Engin.), FRCS (Tr & Orth)

As well as having a thriving private practice at BMI Healthcare, Professor Lee Jeys is one of five Consultant Surgeons in the Oncology department of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. He specialises in hip and knee replacements, particularly revision surgery and infection, pelvic discontinuity and horrendoplasties. He performs several hundred cases per year and is often lauded as an ‘international expert’ undertaking cases that others can’t do. Patients from all over the UK and abroad are often seen in his clinic. He takes a lead in Paediatric Surgery and regularly operates on children under the age of 4 years old at regional paediatric hospitals. He has recently had the wonderful honour bestowed upon him of being made Professor of Health and Life Sciences at Aston University in recognition of his research. Some of this research has been developing personalised knee replacements which mimic the natural shape of the patients’ knee. He uses stem cells from some of his patients to make new bone or cartilage and he supervises 2 PhD students who are 'growing' cartilage in a laboratory.
Professor Jeys’ other area of specialty is bone and soft tissue cancers. He has published many articles about how best to treat bone and soft tissue tumours, including European guidelines for other surgeons. He has also helped to invent a computer system that is used during surgery to remove the tumour more accurately.
