Mr. Walid Abou Samra, Consultant Surgeon

As a Consultant Surgeon with over two decades of experience in both general and specialist breast surgery, my primary focus is delivering compassionate, exceptional care to every patient. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and a leading clinician for breast cancer in North Wales, I am proud to have established a new breast reconstructive service in the region and pioneered innovative surgical treatments.

My medical journey began at the University of Pecs in Hungary, followed by comprehensive training across general and breast surgery. An elective period in Paris further refined my skills in plastic surgery, allowing me to bring a highly specialized, aesthetic approach to reconstructive procedures.

Today, I serve as an accredited Breast Test Wales Screening Surgeon and a member of the national cancer advisory board, striving to keep my practice at the forefront of medical advancement. Beyond my clinical work, I am passionate about surgical education and research, having authored multiple articles and a chapter in a specialist breast surgery textbook. I currently care for patients at Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board's Glan Clwyd Hospital, as well as privately at Spire Wrexham and Spire Abergele.

Research interests

My clinical research is dedicated to advancing breast surgery with a focus on holistic patient well-being. I specialize in oncoplastic techniques, seamlessly combining effective cancer removal with aesthetic reconstruction. By continually exploring the latest innovations in breast reconstruction, correction, and reduction, my ultimate goal is to restore both physical health and self-confidence for every patient.

Personal interests

Outside of my clinical practice, I have a deep passion for history, archaeology, and global exploration. Traveling allows me to experience diverse cultures, giving me a broader perspective that enriches my ability to connect with patients from all walks of life. I am also an active adventurer and recently completed a charity climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

My research has been extensively published in prominent medical journals within the fields of breast and general surgery, underscoring a continuous commitment to surgical excellence. I recently contributed a specialized chapter on breast localization surgery to a comprehensive Elsevier medical textbook. Furthermore, my published peer-reviewed literature includes notable clinical studies, such as research on breast biopsy complications in the Annals of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and mastalgia care in the International Journal of Surgery, alongside presentations on advanced techniques like Radio-guided Occult Lesion Localisation (ROLL).
