About me
Mr Achan is a senior Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. He is fellowship trained in the US and Australia and his NHS practice is at Barts Health NHS Trust. He was Chief of Orthopaedic surgery there for 8 years. He qualified from Barts Hospital Medical school in 1993 and obtained his FRCS in 1996. He was the Hip society Travelling fellow in 2009 lecturing at Stanford, Harvard and the Mayo Clinic and the ABC travelling fellow in 2014 - The most prestigious award in Orthopaedics in the country. He lectured on hip and knee surgery techniques as well as leadership at Harvard, NYU, Emory, McMaster, Duke, The Campbell Clinic and Vanderbilt. Mr Achan has been The Programme Director to the Percival Pott Training Programme for nearly 10 years. This is one of the oldest Orthopaedic Training Programmes in the country and has produced some of the finest Orthopaedic Surgeons including recent Presidents of the BOA such as John Getty, David Jones, David Dandy, Hugh Phillips. It's trainees still visit The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, The Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, Grmond Street l and The Royal London Hospitals. He has a masters in Healthcare leadership from Cornell, has attended leadership programmes at INSEAD and Harvard Business School and currently runs a Leadership programme in conjunction with the Kings Fund for Consultants.
