About me

Mr Ali qualified in Medicine from the University of Sheffield in 1996 before undergoing further surgical and specialist orthopaedic training in Sheffield. He travelled to Sydney, Australia to undergo further specialist training in shoulder and elbow surgery. Mr Ali is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Trauma and Orthopaedics), member of the British Orthopaedic Association and British Elbow and Shoulder Society. He was awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship which allowed him to visit the esteemed Mayo Clinic in the USA.

Mr Ali was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2008. With his wealth of clinical experience and expertise, he is often consulted in highly complex cases within the wider Yorkshire region. He sees patients in private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital and through Sheffield Orthopaedics Limited. Mr Ali has held several senior positions in his field and is a leading name in medical education. He has previously been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons Speciality examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.

He is regularly involved in national and international courses, providing specialist training to fellow consultants, trainee surgeons, GPs and therapists. During his training, Mr Ali invented a set of surgical instruments that continue to be used in elbow replacement surgery to this day. His research and academic work are published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals and he has also authored several book chapters on shoulder and elbow problems. Mr Ali is currently the Clinical Director of Musculoskeletal Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
