About me
Dr. Sean Preston is the Medical Director and Director of Endoscopy at The Princess Grace Hospital, as well as the Chair of the Digestive Diseases and Renal Department at HCA Healthcare UK.
He graduated from St Mary's Hospital Medical School in Paddington in 1995. Most of his postgraduate training took place at Barts and The London NHS Trust (a prominent teaching hospital in London), with an additional year spent in Sydney as an Advanced Endoscopy Fellow. Dr. Preston was appointed Consultant at Barts in 2006, where he continues to practice. His clinical work includes diagnosing and treating conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), Barrett's oesophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, and performing both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy on the oesophagus, stomach, and colon. He has a strong focus on gut health and the gastrointestinal microbiome (including bacteria, viruses, and fungi), and incorporates dietary approaches, as well as pre- and probiotics, to support optimal bowel health. His consultations are designed to give patients ample time to discuss their symptoms and fully understand the causes behind their concerns.
Dr. Preston completed his PhD at Cancer Research UK in London, where his research focused on the role of stem cells in gastrointestinal cancers, resulting in several notable publications in the field.
From 2008 to 2024, he served as the Director of Endoscopy at Barts Health and is also the Deputy Director of the North East London NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. His endoscopic expertise includes gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound. He is an accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, a role that involves a stringent accreditation process and ongoing audit of key performance metrics. He has authored numerous important papers and book chapters on gastrointestinal cancer and continues his research in Barrett's oesophagus.
Dr. Preston was listed in the 2013 and 2025 Tatler Doctors Guide of Britain's top 250 consultants and is part of the prestigious Spears 500 group of Top Recommended UK Private Doctors and Surgeons for 2024. He served as President of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine from 2015-2017 and was previously the Chairman of the Specialist's Committee for the Independent Doctors' Federation.
As a founding partner of London Digestive Health within the London Digestive Centre, Dr. Preston collaborates with a leading clinical team of gastroenterologists from London teaching hospitals, as well as GI surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and a dietician.
