About me

Mr Griffiths is an accredited endometriosis surgeon with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and was responsible for establishing the first tertiary referral endometriosis centre in Wales. He has trained numerous consultants who have gone on to lead successful endometriosis services across the UK.

He is also internationally recognised as a leader in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, with over 100 published articles in peer-reviewed journals. His pioneering work in endometriosis has earned him several research awards, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing women's health.

My surgical expertise includes:

Excision of deep endometriosis, including involvement of the bowel, bladder, and diaphragm
Nerve-sparing surgery to preserve pelvic function and reduce complications
Use of enhanced laparoscopic imaging technologies for greater surgical precision
Laparoscopic (keyhole) hysterectomies, often performed as day-case procedures
Laparoscopic tubal surgery, including reversal of sterilisation
Laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts and fibroids

Research interests

I have built an extensive academic and clinical career focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis. I spent two years conducting dedicated clinical research on how endometriosis affects IVF outcomes and have published widely in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. My work has helped shape modern understanding of endometriosis diagnosis, pain relief, and surgical treatment.

As part of my research career, I contributed to a Cochrane review examining how fibroids impact fertility. I’ve also received several national and international awards for pioneering approaches to managing endometriosis-related pain and for advancing surgical techniques.

As Chief Investigator for a European pharmaceutical trial, I led research into new treatments for endometriosis pain. My current research explores the use of artificial intelligence in laparoscopic surgery, digital tools to improve surgical quality, and ultrasound-based therapies for adenomyosis.

Personal interests

I was born and raised in the South Wales Valleys and graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff in 1996. My surgical training in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery took me from Cardiff and Surrey to Atlanta, giving me a broad, international perspective on women’s health.

I am actively involved in charity work, including serving as Vice President of the British Society for Gynaecological Imaging (BSGI) and as a trustee for the Menstrual Health Project.
