About me
I am a hip and knee surgeon with a special interest in robotic assisted knee replacements and minimally invasive hip replacements. My elective practice in both the NHS and the private sector is almost exclusively related to adult hip and knee problems with details available on my website https://ganapathihipkneesurgeon.com.
I specialise in knee replacements using MRI based 3D mould Patient Specific techniques and have done close to 1,000 knee replacements using that technique and have one of the largest series in UK using this technique. As a further advancement of personalised knee replacement, I have been doing personalised knee replacement using Robotic assistance since 2021 in my NHS practice. I now also offer Robotic assisted knee replacement for private patients at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral and Spire Yale Hospital.
I firmly believe in a rapid recovery (accelerated rehabilitation) after both hip and knee replacements which will lead to early functional recovery and improved patient satisfaction. I employ various techniques including minimally invasive surgery and multi-modal pain control techniques. I have pioneered the introduction of day surgery hip and knee replacement at my NHS hospital with patients going home on the same day of surgery following hip and knee replacements.
I completed my higher specialist training in orthopaedics in Wales and undertook a joint replacement fellowship in Cardiff. I subsequently completed an advanced hip and knee fellowship in Montreal, Canada before starting as a substantive orthopaedic consultant in 2008. During my fellowship in Canada, I also gained experience in managing hip impingement (which is increasingly considered to be a cause of hip pain in young adults often leading to hip arthritis at a younger age) using hip arthroscopy.
I am also a regular trainer for Specialist Trainee Registrar from Oswestry and Wales rotation for Orthopaedics and have been nominated for Trainer of the Year Award. I have also won the Welsh Hack 2022 award to develop an app-based solution for remote monitoring of knee replacement patients using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
