About me
I graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 1986 and undertook specialist oncology training in Glasgow and on Merseyside.
I have more than 15 years experience at consultant level, based in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. My specialist clinical practice now deals exclusively with lower gastro-intestinal tract malignancies (cancers of the colon, rectum and anus).
Special clinical interests include the use of adjuvant (post-operative) and neo-adjuvant (pre-operative) therapies, the incorporation of new drugs into clinical practice, the use of combinations of radiation & chemotherapy and the treatment of metastatic disease.
I am also involved in clinical research for the treatment of GI cancers and am co-investigator of several current clinical trials. Previous research has included laboratory work examining mechanisms of chemotherapy drug resistance, as well as clinical studies evaluating new drugs and novel methods to improve the management of rectal cancer
Areas of interest
Colon cancer; rectal cancer; Anal cancer; chemoradiation; new drugs
