About us

Skills:

I am a very experienced GMC-registered specialist in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM). Initially qualified MBChB Edinburgh 1985. Then Completed GP training (1991) before further wide range of Msk and Sports/Football and Military injury roles led to successful CESR in 2010 in SEM.

Since qualifying 40 years ago, my career has included roles and clinical work within the NHS (GP + Msk 8 years), The British Army (21 years), Aspetar Sports and Orthopaedic Hospital (4.5 years) as well as club doctor roles with Burnley FC (consultant/sessional- 2022 to current) and Fleetwood FC (club doctor- 2019 to current).

Past professional club doctor roles at Derby County (2007-2010), Aston Villa FC (2010), Chelsea FC (2011) and Blackburn Rovers FC (2011-2014).

Over my career developed advanced clinical skills in investigating diagnosing and managing a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions (bone/tendon and muscle)and joint pain problems. sports, training and exercise-related injuries.

In addition, I have over 20 years experience as an musculoskeletal ultrasound-scanner (MskUS)(sonographer; trained in NHS setting via Leeds and other North East consultant radiologists from 2003, and qualified PGC MskUS exam via Lancaster University 2006). I have published several articles on this subject and taught and lectured widely; along with Dr Budgie Hussein (from 2005 onwards) I co-created/established the CASE accredited MskUS courses in Bournemouth, leading to what is today a widely respected MskUS Training Centre in Bournemouth (AECC).

I will assess and manage the whole range of sports and musculoskeletal/activity-related injuries. If you have another injury not specifically listed in my "areas of interest" below, please phone and enquire.

Key Mission:

Taking the time necessary to assess each and diagnose and manage every patients problems and pains in a way that macthes each unique case with the best informed options and choices.

When conservative management, patience and and physiotherapy is not working, where indicated, I can offer ultrasound-guided procedures/injections to promote recovery and symptom control;
this includes CORTISONE (anti-inflammatory and pain relief); PROLOTHERAPY; LARGE VOLUME INJECTIONS FOR TENDINOPATHY; HYALURONIC ACID anti-inflammatory injections and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP injections); GTN patch therapy.

I work hand in hand with your preferred physios as well as recommending and collaborating with the best-matched orthopaedic surgeons; often this in the North West, but for many patients we carefully connect you - when required - with a trusted network of specialists to best meet your shared-care needs for tests, treatment and recovery.

MRI and other relevant radiological scans are arranged via trusted high partners who provide matched rapid high quality investigations and reports.
