About us

Skills:
I am experienced in a wide range of sports, training and exercise-related injuries. In addition, I am a Level 1 musculoskeletal (msk) sonographer (Qualified Lancaster University 2006), and have published several articles on this subject and taught and lectured widely.
I will assess and manage the whole range of sports and musculoskeletal/activity-related injuries. If you have another injury not specifically listed in my "areas of interest" below, please phone and enquire.

When conservative management is not working, where indicated, I can offer ultrasound-guided procedures/injections to promote recovery and symptom control; this includes CORTISONE (anti-inflammatory and pain relief); PROLOTHERAPY; LARGE VOLUME INJECTIONS FOR TENDINOPATHY; HYALURONIC ACID anti-inflammatory injections.

I work hand in hand with our excellent physio service, local orthopaedic surgeons and radiology services to ensure that the best options are laid out for your diagnosis and recovery.

Personal Background:
Qualified from Edinburgh University MBChB in 1985. Served 21 years as Military Medical Officer/GP in HM Forces (Lt Colonel, Army RAMC) 1983-1992 & 1999-2010. General Practitioner 1991-2011, before completing cross-over training and becoming a Sports & Exercise Medicine Specialist in 2011.

As well as wide range of experience treating injured military personnel over 21 years, I have worked in elite sport. This includes football club doctor posts at Derby County (2007-2010), Aston Villa (2010), Chelsea (2011) and Blackburn Rovers (2011-2014).

My most recent post was full-time hybrid role as a sports medicine consultant at the internationally respected Aspetar Sports & Orthopaedic Hospital in Doha (2014-2018). I worked full time with the Qatar National Football Team (2014-2016, Asia Cup Winners 2014) and subsequently as a memeber of the hospital sports medicine department/out-patient clinic, as well as roles with the Aspire Acadmey Sports Medicine Centre (for junior elite athletes <18) as well as elite athlete screening (2016-2018).
