About me
Mr Ewan Kannegieter is a Consultant Podiatric Surgeon with over 25 years' experience in the assessment and surgical management of foot and ankle conditions. He provides specialist foot surgery at Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford, serving patients across Essex.
Mr Kannegieter undertakes a broad range of elective foot surgery and also provides second opinions and revision surgery where appropriate. His clinical practice spans both routine and more complex cases, including elective and urgent foot surgery, deformity correction, reconstruction and diabetic limb salvage. His approach is grounded in evidence based practice, careful patient selection and shared decision making, with a clear focus on long term function and patient outcomes.
He served as Dean of Podiatric Surgery at the Royal College of Podiatry from 2024 to 2026 and holds an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Medical Sciences at Quinnipiac University, Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine, USA. Alongside his clinical work, he contributes to education, training, research oversight and professional governance.
Mr Kannegieter has ten years' experience working at consultant grade within the NHS and has been closely involved in multidisciplinary care for complex foot and ankle disease. He was a core member of the Mid Essex Diabetes Amputation Reduction Project (MEDARP), contributing to pathways aimed at reducing major amputations and improving outcomes for patients with diabetic foot disease.
He is actively involved in education, governance and professional leadership. He is a tutor in podiatric surgery, lectures at regional and national conferences, and presents research internationally. He is a reviewer for Podiatrist and the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, and has mentored surgical first assistants, non medical prescribers and advanced MSc students.
Mr Kannegieter is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry and its Faculty of Podiatric Surgery, the Health and Care Professions Council, the International Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons, the American Limb Preservation Society, and the Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery organisation.
