About me
I completed my undergraduate medical degree at the University of Bristol in 1995. This was then followed by my basic surgical training in the Bristol area, including a one year post at the University of Bristol, Department of Anatomy working as an Anatomy Lecturer. I was awarded an MD by the University of Bristol following a two and a half year period in formal research. My research interest was in the epidemiology of prostate cancer. My higher surgical training in Urology took me all over the South West and finally to Bristol. I was appointed a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Gloucestershire in 2007. After settling in over the first few years, I became the Clinical Lead in Urology for Gloucestershire for 3 tears until August 2015. I have always been passionate about the training of future urologists and doctors and have been the Training Programme Director for Urological training in the Southwest from 2014-2018. This role allowed me to oversee and shape the training of future urologists in the region. Since giving up that role after my tenure, I have been elected to serve as a member of the council of the British Association of Urological Surgeons as the southwest regional representative.
As far as my practice goes, I am a firm believer in always ensuring that my patient is at the centre of everything I do. This includes listening carefully to what the patient is concerned about, and giving my genuine opinion. I also believe that it is very important that patients fully understand what is going on and the rationale for treatments that I may or may not recommend.
