About me
Mr. Gavin Jennings specialises in shoulder surgery.
He studied at St. John’s College, Cambridge and St. Mary’s Hospital, London, where he qualified as a doctor in 1995. He undertook his Orthopaedic training in London before embarking on sub-specialty training in shoulder surgery. He was awarded a Fellowship in South Africa under Joe De Beer, one of the world’s leading arthroscopic(keyhole) shoulder surgeons. He subsequently undertook a further Fellowship in Arthroscopy and Athletic Injuries at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver under Professor McCormack (Chief Medical Officer for the Canadian Olympic Team). He was actively involved both in research and the treatment of numerous world class sportsmen during these periods abroad.
He took up a Consultant post at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in 2007 and also consults at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases.
He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the whole spectrum of shoulder problems, but has a particular interest in performing advanced arthroscopic (keyhole) procedures to treat conditions ranging from instability to tendon damage.
In addition to his extensive arthroscopic experience he has also been trained in complex open procedures. These include operations for the treatment of irreparable tendon problems and arthritis including reverse shoulder replacements and tendon transfers (on which he has published internationally).
Mr. Jennings is frequently referred patients with complex shoulder problems from other orthopaedic surgeons.
His is actively involved in the training of other doctors and surgeons and teaches on arthroscopic shoulder surgery courses both in the UK and Internationally.
His primary concern is with obtaining optimal results for his patients where goals can range from the reduction of pain and dysfunction to return to high level sporting activities. His practice is audited using internationally validated scoring systems.
