About me

I qualified from Cambridge University in 1994 and completed my cardiology training at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge in 2006. I am actively involved in primary, secondary and tertiary care treatment of cardiovascular disease within Cheshire & Merseyside and am committed to improving the lives of patients with heart disease. I developed and deliver the key-hole aortic valve replacement programmes (TAVI) at Liverpool Heart & Chest and Spire Manchester hospitals, and am increasingly involved in the management of heart valve disease. I provide risk assessment for individuals with a family history (or other risk factors) for vascular disease and actively promote/prescribe prevention strategies. My general cardiology interests include the management of chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and dizziness/blackouts. I am cardiac lead for the Cheshire and Mersey strategic clinical network and immediate past-president of the British association for cardiovascular prevention & rehabilitation. I chaired the CVD guidelines committee for NICE from 2022 until 2025, and currently chair the CVD prevention & rehabilitation expert advisory group for NHS England. I live in Altrincham, my wife is a consultant neonatologist at St Mary's in Manchester and we have two children at Newcastle Uni and a 17 year old in sixth form. My passions include skiing (snow & water), golf and spending time with family in Abersoch.
