Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Mr Jaysheel V Mehta is a consultant orthopaedic foot & ankle surgeon practicing at BMI Highfield Hospital, Rochdale, Lancashire. He has his NHS practice at The PENNINE Acute Hospitals NHS trust, bases at The Royal Oldham Hospital and The Rochdale Infirmary since 2006.

Mr Mehta qualified as a doctor from B J Medical College, Ahmedabad, India in 1986. Thereafter he underwent postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery at B J Medical College and It's affiliated teaching hospital in Ahmedabad and obtained his Masters in orthopaedic surgery, MS(Orth). Mr Mehta subsequently left India for further training and came to the UK in the North West. He was trained in orthopaedics surgery including foot & ankle surgery at various centres in the north west including well renowned Wrightington hospital.

During this journey he cleared many exams and obtained MCh(Orth) from Uni of Liverpool, and MRCSEd and FRCSEd(Tr & Orth) from Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Mr Mehta finished his accredited training in the north west and obtained a CCT prior to his appointment as a substantive consultant at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Recently, Royal College of Surgeons of England awarded him the FRCS ed eundem. Mr Mehta undertook a visiting fellowship with Dr Bob Anderson, a renowned foot
and ankle surgeon at Orthocarolina clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

Mr Mehta is currently a consultant orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon providing a comprehensive orthopaedic foot and ankle service at the BMI Highfield hospital, Rochdale. This includes treatment of sports injuries and ligament injuries of the foot & ankle, surgery to reconstruct tendo achilles, bunion surgeries, surgeries for arthritis of the ankle and foot, arthroscopic (key hole) surgery of the ankle including arthroscopic fusion of the ankle obviating the need for bigger incisions and improving the outcomes. He also undertakes total ankle replacements in selected cases. Mr Mehta provides treatment of hindfoot conditions and carries out triple fusions, sub talar fusions, os calcis osteotomies and reconstruction for cavus foot and flat foot. Surgery for Hallux Rigidus, Hallux Valgus, claw toes, hammer toes, Achilles tendinitis and Morton's neuromas are carried out routinely by Mr Mehta.

He is closely associated with medical education and he is currently the Associate Director of Medical Education, surgical specialities, at The Pennine Acute Hospital NHS
Trust. He is also the Royal College Tutor with close links with the North West Deanery and the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Mehta has keen interest in music, technology and takes a keen interest in teaching and training. He enjoys the outdoors and is a nature lover.
