About me

Rahul Nath qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff in 1992 with a BSc in Pharmacology and a Medical degree. After completing his house jobs within the Professorial units of Medicine and Surgery he undertook his general obstetrics and gynaecology training in the West Midlands and at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital. He took a year out of his O&G training to complete a year of basic surgical training. Rahul completed colposcopy training and conducted a colposcopy based research project recruiting normal women, those with abnormal smears and Lupus investigating the virology, immunology and molecular biology of HPV infection. This three year research project conducted at King’s College London led to a doctorate in medicine (MD) degree awarded by the University of London. He completed a two-year Subspecialty training programme in Gynaecological Oncology in a joint programme between Guy’s and St Thomas and the West Kent Cancer Centre in 2006 and was appointed as Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon and Subspecialist in Gynaecological Oncology at Guy’s and St Thomas in the same year.

Rahul has been Lead Clinician for Gynaecology (2012-2014), and Clinical Director for Women’s Services (2014-2017) and Lead Clinician for Gynaecological Oncology and South-East London Accountable Cancer Network Lead for Gynaecological Oncology (2017-2023). he is the Senior Gynaecological Oncology surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas Hospital.

Rahul’s clinical interests are in pre-invasive cervical, vaginal and vulval disease (CIN, VAIN and VIN), cancer diagnosis, the management of Ovarian, Endometrial, Cervical and Vulval cancer. He offers fertility sparing surgery as well as ultra-radical open and laparoscopic surgery. All women diagnosed with a gynaecological malignancy are discussed within a specialist cancer MDT.

He manages women both at primary presentation and with recurrent disease. Rahul has published extensively in his specialist area and is frequently invited to speak at patient awareness events and to fellow professionals.

Areas of interest

The investigation of women with irregular vaginal bleeding; post-menopausal bleeding; abdominal bloating or distension; an ovarian cyst; vulval itching or soreness; a visible abnormal lesion on the vulva; abnormal looking cervix; or abnormal smear; colposcopy; to exclude a gynaecological malignancy. The further management of women diagnosed with an ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vaginal or vulval carcinoma, or borderline ovarian disease; Risk reducing surgery for women with an inherited cancer risk. Surgical management of fibroids, endometriosis and Gynaecological Malignancy.
