About me
Dr Austin studied for his medical degree at the University of Nottingham, qualifying in 1990. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993. He undertook his specialist gastroenterology training in some of the leading hospitals in London, including St Mary’s, the Chelsea and Westminster, the Hammersmith Hospital and the world renowned St Mark’s Hospital.
He was appointed as a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist in 2004. Dr Austin was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008.
Dr Austin has extensive experience in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions. These include gastro-oesophageal reflux, abdominal pain, cancer of the stomach and bowel, inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and conditions of the liver and pancreas.
Dr Austin has a special interest in endoscopy - he has performed over ten thousand gastroscopies, colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies. He has undergone advanced specialist training, achieving the UK’s highest standard of accreditation to carry out expert colonoscopies for the screening and prevention of bowel cancer.
Together with his wife Jayne they have formed the Kent Gastroenterology Partnership and are dedicated to providing an outstanding level of care and personal service. This is reflected in reviews of their practice on the independent I Want Great Care website.
