About me
I have been working as a psychotherapist for over 25 years. During that time, I have also taught on counselling and psychotherapy masters courses at the University of Reading and Birkbeck College, London. My publications include a number of journal papers and two books 'Hidden Self-Harm: narratives from psychotherapy' and 'Psychosomatic Health: the body and the work', both of which reflect my interest in the ways in which psychological stress can emerge in the form of bodily symptoms.
While I find psychoanalytic theory helpful in understanding what may lie behind a client's problems, I do not use a couch and my style of work is conversational and interactive. I like to think of the client and myself as two detectives collaborating to understand and make sense of what is going on and consider together what changes may be possible and beneficial.
