About me

Professor Kharbanda is a Consultant Cardiologist who works at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. His private practice is based at the Bridge Clinic in Maidenhead. He sees patients with symptoms of heart disease such as shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, blackouts and ankle swelling.

He studied medicine at Edinburgh Medical School, Scotland and graduated in 1991 (BSc (1st), MBChB). He trained in general cardiology and interventional cardiology at The Whittington Hospital and Middlesex Hospital, London from 1993-95. He was awarded a PhD from the University of London in 2001. He completed specialist cardiology training in interventional cardiology at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge from 2001-04 and undertook an international fellowship in Toronto General Hospital, Canada 2004-05. He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Harefield Hospital in 2006 and moved to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford in 2007.

Professor Kharbanda has over 20 years of experience treating patients with cardiac disease and has a specialist interest in coronary artery disease and heart valve disease. He has held senior management roles in the cardiology department of his NHS Trust, including as Clinical Lead for Interventional Cardiology from 2014-21. He has sat on national committees that develop clinical guidelines, including for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), and he was lead for education and training for the British Cardiac Intervention Society in 2018-21. He is presently National Clinical Lead for the transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) audit at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Outcomes and Research (NICOR). This reflects his keen interest in improving patient outcomes from cardiac care. He has a strong interest in clinical research and has led clinical trials in the treatment of heart attacks, angina and heart valve disease. He has published over 200 research papers and is regularly invited to speak at national and international cardiology meetings.
