About me
Professor Venu Kavarthapu is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital, with special interest in Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgery. He trained in Orthopaedic Surgery from South East Thames Orthopaedic Rotation. Further fellowship training was obtained in specialized MIS (minimally invasive) and computer navigation hip surgery under the tuition of Dr Lawrence Dorr at the Arthritis Institute, Los Angeles, USA; Dr Joel Matta at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles, USA; hip surgery fellowship at Guy’s Hospital, London; and foot and ankle fellowship training at Royal Surrey County and Frimley Park Hospitals, Surrey.
Prof Kavarthapu runs a regional young adult hip surgery service at King's College Hospital, including hip arthroscopy and minimally invasive hip replacement surgery and he also offers this service in the private sector. He heads in his hospital a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary complex foot surgery service that undertakes corrective surgery required for foot deformities caused by diabetes. He believes in personalised care and works closely with an experienced team of Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Diabetologists, Anaesthetists and Nurses, in order to provide the best possible treatment and to ensure the minimal recovery time for all his patients.
Prof Kavarthapu lectures nationally and internationally in conferences particularly on diabetic foot surgery, trauma, hip arthroscopy, and hip arthroplasty. He is actively involved in research and published several scientific articles in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
Prof Kavarthapu’s other responsibilities include Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and Associate Professor at University of Southern Denmark. He is an education committee member of British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the current President of the international organisation- Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons.
