Mr. Janos T. Patko is based on the NHS at Barnsley General Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust where he was appointed in April 2010 as a Specialist Hip and Knee Arthroplasty surgeon with an interest in complex revision.
He performs all aspects of hip Arthroplasty including the use of ceramic bearings in the young patient group. In revision hip surgery he utilizes a variety of surgical techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomies and trochanteric slides for exposure. He is competent at pelvic revision techniques such as using mesh and reinforcement rings along with impaction bone grafting for cemented sockets. He also uses uncemented sockets and bulk allograft when appropriate. He uses a variety of cemented and uncemented implants to deal with the different aspects of femoral bone loss. He also performs total hip replacement for fracture neck of femur patients in the appropriate physiological groups.

He performs both condylar and unicondylar primary knee Arthroplasty and utilise condylar and hinged knee replacements in revision surgery along with hinged knees for complex and fixed deformity knee arthritis.

He performs all routine arthroscopic procedures of the knee such as menisectomy.

He has several peer review publications and has delivered presentations both nationally and internationally on different aspects of orthopaedics.
I have worked on many different arthroplasty team back in Hungary, as well as in England. Between 1995 and 1996, I worked under MR. A.B. Nevelos’ supervision in Bradford , as part of the ODTS / Overseas Doctors Training Scheme/, recognised by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where I assisted and performed numerous THR and TKR, both cemented and non-cemented. I have been involved in complex primary joint arthroplasty cases as well as revision arthroplasty cases. As part of my training in Oswestry, I was also attached to other Lower Limb Arthroplasty team, with Mr. Hubbard and Mr. D. Rees. This gave me valuable experience in knee reconstruction procedures, tibial osteotomies, soft tissue knee reconstruction, primary and revision knee and hip surgery. In my time at Scarborough working with Mr. J. Bradley, I became skilled at HAC Furlong uncemented primary and revision total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty procedures. In Bradford I performed many complex and multiple trauma cases, learned new trend in use of navigation system and minimal invasive joint arthroplasty operations.

80% of my procedures are joint arthroplasty cases at present.
