About me
Dr (George) Richard Smith is a Consultant in Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal and Sports Medicine practicing at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and New Hall Hospital. He is also visiting Rheumatologist to King Edwards Memorial Hospital, Port Stanley in the Falklands Islands. He trained at St Mary's Hospital, London, completed his Masters in Rheumatology at Kings, London and his diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath..
Dr Smith is passionate about treating, managing and education for all forms of inflammatory arthritis and chronic pain. His interest in osteoporosis and musculoskeletal medicine stems from his research looking into bone density in elite athletes and he is junior secretary to the RSM sports and exercise medicine. He teaches extensively for the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Masterclasses in Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal medicine (all forms of joint pain) and Osteoporosis and in September 2019, he was nominated in the BMJ as a role model consultant. He is extremely experienced and proficient in joint and soft tissue injections for arthritis and musculoskeletal pain.
