About me
Who am I? What are my qualifications? What experience do I bring to my work? How do I work?
I have over 25 years' clinical experience in the private sector, the NHS, further education and the HMP service as a psychotherapist, CBT therapist, counsellor, supervisor, life coach, lecturer, mediator, and trainer. My extensive training includes an MA in Psychotherapy & Counselling, Post Graduate Diploma in CBT, Post Graduate Diploma in Couple Counselling & Psychotherapy, Diploma in PTSD, EMDR, Clinical supervision training, Certificate in Mediation and a Teacher's Certificate in Further Education. In FE I developed integrative counselling training programmes, in the HMP service I supervised psychologists delivering training programmes, in the NHS I developed services for the provision of CBT and mediation for all staff. I also set up a service for a Formula 1 company to address performance enhancement and traumatic events. In my work at the Priory Hospital I have seen inpatients and outpatients (adults and adolescents) for a variety of mental health issues. In 1997 I set up a counselling service for pupils and staff at Charterhouse (school) until 2017. Ongoing is my work with the Police Firearms Officer Association to support members therapeutically following traumatic events. My previous career includes setting up and delivering language training programmes in FE and the British Airports Authority and Business Studies/Management at a university. In CBT, counselling and psychotherapy the quality of the therapeutic relationship is paramount and it is vital that the quality reflects the position of the clients in a climate of authenticity, trust and acceptance. Life can be like a dance - the music can be fast or slow, loud or soft, soothing or disturbing, sad or joyous; how we may choose to dance to the music is unique to us. I provide an environment where my client is valued and enables us to explore the client's way of 'being in the world' (including their beliefs, thoughts emotions and behaviours) is lived and what choices are realistically possible to make in order to improve their quality of life.
