About me
Christopher Luscombe studied Medicine at Birmingham University, graduating in 1992. His basic surgical training was carried out in Staffordshire and he went on to specialise in Urology with Urological training in the West Midlands. During this time he developed a particular interest in prostate cancer and has published widely on this disease.
His list of publications include several articles in the prestigious journals The Lancet and The British Medical Journal. In 2003, Birmingham University recognised his interest and research into the causes of prostate cancer were by the awarding the degree Doctor of Medicine (MD). He continues to be involved with research into the causes of prostate cancer in conjunction with Keele and Birmingham Universities.
He was appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in 2005, and is the local lead for Urology cancer. He has a particular interest in the treatment of prostate cancer, but is also experienced in the treatment of a large range of Urological conditions in both adults and children. He regularly performs treatments for conditions that include cancer, kidney stones, prostate enlargement and foreskin/testicular problems. In particular he has developed an interest into laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery of the kidney and prostate, and minimally invasive surgery, such as laser surgery for prostate enlargement and kidney stones.
He was the first surgeon to introduce keyhole prostate cancer surgery in the region and is invited to other hospitals to help train other Consultant Surgeons to perform this procedure. For more details please visit: www.staffordshireurologyclinic.co.uk. He helped introduce robotic surgery to Staffordshire 5 years ago, and regularly performs robotic radical prostatectomy.
He is the Trust cancer lead and chairs the Staffordshire STP cancer board.
