About me

Dr Jagathesan graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1993. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Barts and the London NHS Trusts in 2005. In 2007, he became one of the inaugural Consultants at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC), supporting the development of regional cardiac services for Essex patients. He went on to serve as Lead Cardiologist for the Essex Cardiac and Stroke Network in 2011, Lead Cardiologist at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2013, Lead Interventional Cardiologist at the Essex CTC in 2015 and Clinical Director for the Essex CTC in 2019. In 2021, he was appointed Divisional Medical Director at Mid & South Essex NHS Trust, overseeing the Essex CTC and cardiology services across Basildon, Southend and Broomfield Hospitals.

With over 20 years of consultant experience, Dr Jagathesan maintains a comprehensive clinical practice across all areas of adult general cardiology. His specialist interest is the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease, and as an interventional cardiologist he performs complex coronary angioplasty and stenting with excellent outcomes. In 2018, he established the TAVI service at the Essex CTC and now leads a dedicated team delivering a high?volume, high?quality TAVI programme for the region. He also has a specialist interest in aviation cardiology and is highly experienced in assessing cardiovascular fitness to fly and navigating the regulatory requirements of the UK CAA, EASA and FAA. His ethos is rooted in delivering outstanding care with excellence, empathy, and integrity. His practice is defined by the highest standards of diagnosis and treatment, guided by evidence?based practice to achieve the best possible outcomes. With clear communication and genuine compassion, he places patients at the centre of every decision, ensuring care is tailored to each individual.
