About me
I trained in general surgery at Cardiff, Bristol and in the South West where I developed a specialist interest in gastrointestinal and endocrine surgery.
I have been a proponent of pioneering advanced techniques and procedures in laparoscopic minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery for the treatment of upper gastrointestinal and endocrine diseases. SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), a new cutting edge laparoscopic technique has been introduced for gallstones and gastric band surgery.
Under the guidance of the late Professor Farndon, I was awarded a PhD for my research in endocrine disease.
I have received many prestigious grants and have several book chapters on the management of thyroid diseases in major surgical textbooks and surgical journals. After my research I returned to Cardiff and underwent further specialist training in endocrine surgery encompassing complicated thyroid diseases (benign, cancer and re-do surgery), minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and adrenal (laparoscopic) surgery as well as rare islet pancreatic tumours.
I provide a comprehensive surgical service with specialist treatment for gallstones including advanced laparoscopic treatment for stones in the bile duct, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, weight loss surgery, splenectomy and hernia. Also I am one of a handful of UK specialists who provides surgical care for the full spectrum of endocrine surgical diseases especially in complicated and re-do neck surgery.
I have four boys, two beautiful daughters. I was forced into early retirement from windsurfing due to the arrival of my children. Luckily, in between the nappy changes, I managed to smuggle my skis to safety and transplanted them to my children. To occupy myself between skiing, dreaming about the slopes, I keep a very close eye on rugby, grand prix and the highs and lows of British tennis.
