About me
Mr Ahmed is a highly experienced, Fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in upper limb condition with expertise spanning the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. Renowned both nationally and internationally, he is particularly recognised for his skill in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, and for pioneering advanced techniques in the treatment of complex upper limb injuries.
With a career spanning over two decades, Mr Ahmed has been at the forefront of innovation in orthopaedic surgery, often managing complex cases referred by fellow surgeons, professional sports teams, and international institutions. His dedication to excellence and teaching has helped shape the careers of numerous surgeons who have gone on to become consultants themselves.
Mr Ahmed has particular expertise in:
Arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the shoulder and elbow
Sports injuries and trauma to the upper limb
Rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability & dislocations
Complex fractures and minimally invasive fixation techniques
Wrist and hand conditions, including nerve compression and tendon injuries
Elbow disorders, including tennis elbow and joint stiffness
His reputation as a leading surgeon has led to the treatment of high-level athletes, including Premier League footballers from Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace. He is also frequently consulted by patients from the film and performing arts industries, where swift and effective recovery is paramount.
Mr Ahmed completed his orthopaedic surgical training through the Wessex and Liverpool training programmes, before earning a Master's degree in Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) from the University of Liverpool - a highly respected academic distinction in the field.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr&Orth) in 2001 and went on to complete specialist fellowships in shoulder, elbow, and upper limb surgery at some of London's top teaching hospitals, including Hammersmith and St Mary's NHS Trusts. He also undertook focused upper limb training in Southampton and Portsmouth.
In 2005, he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest and busiest NHS Trusts in the UK, where he continues to manage complex trauma and sports injuries.
Mr Ahmed is a recognised authority in his field and has contributed to the development of innovative surgical techniques, particularly in arthroscopic treatment of shoulder fractures - one of which has been published in leading orthopaedic journals.
His skill and reputation led to his selection by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (LOCOG), where he was part of the elite medical team providing orthopaedic care to world-class athletes.
Internationally, Mr Ahmed has performed surgery and shared expertise in the Cayman Islands and Pakistan, treating challenging upper limb cases and supporting global orthopaedic education and practice.
Mr Ahmed is an active member of several respected professional societies, including:
British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS)
British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH)
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)
These affiliations reflect his ongoing commitment to advancing clinical standards and contributing to the global orthopaedic community.
He also practices at the OS Clinic, where he joins forces with Professor Ali Noorani in the Upper Limb Division - a collaborative partnership that brings together two of the UK's most respected upper limb surgeons for complex and multidisciplinary cases.
