About me

Mr Ian Reilly
DHealthSci, FRCPodS, FFPM RCPS(Glasg)
Consultant Podiatric Surgeon
Private Practice

Foot problems can be very painful, but if your symptoms are mild, medication (tablets or injections) may be enough to reduce your pain. Insoles or shoe modifications may be useful for some patients. When symptoms persist and normal ambulation is no longer possible, surgery may be the best option. Corrective surgical procedures can provide a solution to many long-term problems that would otherwise only be treatable by chronic conservative measures. Surgery may be the treatment of choice when other non-surgical treatment methods have been tried and unsuccessful or are not sufficiently helpful.

How surgery can help:
1.The pain should have been reduced or may have stopped completely
2.The foot may be straighter and should function better
3.You should feel more comfortable when wearing shoes

Mr Reilly qualified as a Podiatrist in 1988 and as a Podiatric Surgeon in 1996. Podiatric Surgery is a specialist field of practice within the podiatry profession. Podiatric Surgeons are Podiatrists who have undergone extensive postgraduate training in the surgical management of foot and ankle problems. A Podiatric Surgeon is to feet very much like a dentist is to teeth: an independent clinician in the field of surgery. Mr has performed over 11,000 surgical procedures under local, regional and general anaesthesia. He has a particular interest in bunion and skin/nail tissue surgery and has lectured internationally on plastic surgical procedures of the foot.
