About me
My specialist field is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. I was a Senior Lecturer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Sheffield and Honorary Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for over 22 years until I resigned at the end of March 2017.
I continue to work in both private hospital based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice at Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield and in private Oral Surgery Specialist Practice in Sheffield.
I undertake a broad range of work within the field of Oral Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including the diagnosis and treatment of lesions of the head and neck.
I have over 30 years experience in the management and treatment of patients with oral and facial injuries, the last 22 of those years as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in a large Teaching Hospital.
I am a leading expert in the management of lingual and inferior alveolar nerve injuries, which are usually sustained during the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. Lingual nerve injury can be very debilitating resulting not only in numbness but also painful dysaesthesia in the tongue.
Before I resigned from the University of Sheffield at the end of March 2017, I was treating the majority of the patients undergoing orthognathic/facial deformity surgery in Sheffield, carrying out more than 25 bimaxillary osteotomies each year;
I also held regular joint clinics with the Consultants in the Department of Paediatric Dentistry where we examined paediatric patients with complex oral and maxillofacial surgery problems.
