About me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and BABCP Accredited Consultant Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with over 25 years experience providing psychological assessments and treatment interventions for adults and children experiencing a broad range of psychological difficulties and mental health problems.

With relation to my CBT practice, since 2008, I have additionally been an accredited CBT Trainer and Supervisor and taught for over five years on the CBT Post Graduate Programme at the University of Birmingham. I continue to provide workshops and presentations in CBT and in recent years have been an invited speaker at international conferences in Egypt, Morocco and Switzerland. I have also provided extensive training for the Civil Service including the MOD and have provided workshops in mental health including CBT for GP's, Psychiatrists in Training and more Generic Mental Health Professionals.

With relation to my role as a Clinical Supervisor I have overseen the Clinical Practice of over 30 NHS qualified Psychologists and IAPT Workers and have helped a considerable number of professionals with their BABCP Accreditation process. I am also credited as having played an instrumental role developing a CBT Programme for Palestinian mental health professionals based in Bethlehem, Palestine. This was done in a voluntary capacity and has contributed to the establishment on a Palestinian Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.

I have additional experience to draw on as past Regional Chair of the West Midlands Branch of the Division of Clinical Psychology, Chair of BSMHFT Trauma and Personality Disorder Working Group and I have served as a Trustee and an elected member of the Board Directors for BABCP.

About me

Current NHS consultant posts held

I am now semi retired, but have retained a role as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust providing occasional psychological input across Urgent Care Services ( I was formerly Psychology Lead for Urgent Care until July 2022).

I additionally have a part time role as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Co Clinical Lead for the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme. for Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Research interests

1) The evidence base and application of CBT for common adult and child mental health problems.
2) Assessment and treatment of Single incident and Complex Trauma.
3) Transcultural approaches in Mental Health.
4) Positive Psychology and it's clinical application with strengths based formulation work.

Personal interests

1) I have an interest in research in the field of Emotional Intelligence and it's application in everyday life and work / organisational contexts.
