About me

Joanna has 32 years experience working as a trained Clinical Psychologist and 26 years working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. She completed her training at the world renowned Institute Of Psychiatry, Maudsley Hospital in London, qualifying in 1992 before the training became a Doctorate. She was employed as the Head Psychologist of a specialist team in the NHS until 2023 where she developed new services and had national roles as a clinical advisor. She has completed a range of additional trainings as a qualified Psychologist including CBT, schema therapy and EMDR.

She understands the challenges associated with finding a Psychologist and the need to establish a trusting therapeutic rapport in the early stages. She prides herself on being an optimistic, compassionate and kind psychologist who is committed to working with people to facilitate and achieve change. Her clinical work is informed by theory and the latest evidence-base, and she works in adherence with the NICE guidelines. Fundamental to Joanna's approach is the emphasis that she places upon the development of a safe, trustworthy, and authentic therapeutic relationship. She believes in the importance of showing unconditional kindness, empathy and positive regard to every client she works with. She holds an unfaltering belief and hope in peoples ability to achieve positive change and to overcome their difficulties, no matter how complex they are. She believes that it is possible for everyone to flourish and thrive. She therefore recognises the importance of identifying each persons unique strengths and abilities and believes that the therapeutic process can be a place to share not just difficult experiences but positive experiences and humour also. As a therapist, building rapport and creating a safe, judgement-free, and empathic space is at the core of what she does. Joanna works collaboratively with her clients to ensure that they are getting as much out of the therapeutic relationship and process as they can. This includes developing a shared understanding of a clients difficulties through a comprehensive assessment process and working together to implement evidence-based interventions to address factors that may have led to and are maintaining these difficulties.

She works closely with a number of Occupational Health Departments and Welfare Departments in the United Kingdom
