Experienced Psychotherapist from the Tavistock Clinic, London as well as a Chartered and Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
Worked in the NHS for over 30 years providing Psychological treatment to a range of patients in outpatient settings. Experience working with adults, adolescents, and young people who have experienced transient difficulties through trauma or crisis that sometimes result in stress, anxiety, and depression. Extensive experience of those patients who have suffered profound emotional difficulties in their early life that have resulted in enduring personality difficulties which include problematic relationships, self-harm, or suicidal tendencies.
Bearing in mind that when a patient comes for help with their difficulties, they need to feel they are in safe and competent hands, I try to do this by being responsive and ethical in my approach and addressing what obstructs their capacity to live a more emotionally fulfilling and meaningful life.
Areas of interest
Depression; Anxiety disorders; Bereavement; Complex personality disorders, Adolescent mental health; Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD);
Current NHS consultant posts held
I work in part-time private practice, however, I have no current availability. Please check again in the new year.
I have presented papers both at National and International conferences/events in the area of trauma, and have been a visiting speaker in Cape Town, South Africa, Washington and New York. I also have an interest in and have written about suicidal patients as well as their management. More recently, I have written a book that was published with Karnac Books that looks at the in-depth psychology of prejudice, racism and trauma from a clinical perspective. I also have interest in the effects of early trauma such as sexual abuse and attachment difficulties in patients who have been adopted at birth.
In 2006 I received a Long Service Award from Hertfordshire NHS Trust for working in the NHS.
