About me
Mary is a Doctor of psychology and chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She is also a registered psycho-sensory psychotherapist with the BACP. She is an experienced therapist and works with an Integrative Psychosensory approach using evidence-based approaches which have been scientifically shown to be effective. She works with individuals and couples and treats issues ranging from, anxiety, depression, and bereavement, to more complex issues such as PTSD, panic attacks, and phobias.
Mary can work successfully within many modalities including EMDR, CBT, trauma-focused CBT, narrative therapy, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. However, she believes that every client has a unique set of circumstances that has influenced their individual issues and she prides herself on tailoring every therapy session to fit your needs. Therefore, Mary can provide either short-term solution-focused sessions tailored to you, or longer-term therapy, depending on your requirements and aims for therapy. Sometimes several sessions can be all it takes to make huge steps toward recovery.
Historically Mary has worked within an IAPT service in the NHS delivering psychological therapy to individuals suffering from depression, panic disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and health anxiety. She also spent 2 years working for a complex treatment service delivering psychological therapy to war veterans experiencing PTSD and complex PTSD. Prior to this, she worked for several years with adolescents in CAMHS inpatient services, with individuals diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, personality disorder, severe anxiety and depression, and psychosis.
Alongside her private practice she currently works for the NHS as an outpatient consultant and is a qualified and registered user of psychological testing with the BPS. As she is a qualified user of psychological testing this places her uniquely to be able to work with executives who are keen to take their flourishing to new levels of success by identifying areas for development and growth.
Before qualifying as a psychologist Mary trained as a mindfulness teacher with MISP and has a strong personal practice as a member of the Kadampa Buddhist community in Northamptonshire. She also practices Wudang tai chi and the Japanese martial art iaido. She has also studied the Japanese body therapy shiatsu and is a qualified shiatsu practitioner, which gives her invaluable physiological and anatomical knowledge, adding a depth to the psychosensory work she provides.
