About me

I am a HCPC registered Forensic Psychologist (BSc, MSc, DForenPsy) with over 10 years experience working in specialist mental health settings within the NHS. I currently work with people in the community who have had contact with the criminal justice system and provide specialist assessment and treatment options. I have experience in, and can provide therapy for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, emotion regulation, substance use and addictions, personality disorders, relationship difficulties and complex trauma. I can also provide support for issues related to feelings of shame, identity difficulties and existential worries. Much of my work within the NHS has involved working with complex trauma and relationship difficulties. That is, how disruptions in our early attachment experiences, e.g. the need to feel safe, accepted or valued, can impact on adult relationships and contribute to ongoing relationship difficulties.

Psychological distress and suffering are very difficult but universal human experiences which can at times feel lonely and hopeless. I will provide a non-judgmental, thoughtful and reflective space in which we can explore current problems and identify patterns of relating that may contribute to, or maintain your current difficulties. Having the space to discuss unexpressed thoughts or feelings may unlock new perspectives or understandings to your problems.

I realise that starting therapy can be daunting, and that sometimes problems can feel complex and overwhelming. My approach is broadly integrative, drawing on several evidence-based models of therapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am also trained in delivering Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR is an effective evidence based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other clinical problems. We can discuss what approach might work best during our initial assessment.
