About me

I am a Consultant General Surgeon at University Hospital Southampton and a specialist in minimally invasive (keyhole) hernia and gallbladder surgery.

My clinical philosophy is built on the integration of surgical excellence and data science. I believe that every patient deserves absolute transparency regarding their treatment. Rather than relying on vague reassurances, I use validated clinical data to help you understand your specific risks, map out your precise recovery timeline, and ensure that surgery is only recommended when it is objectively the right choice for your lifestyle.

After qualifying with distinction from Imperial College London, my surgical training across the Wessex region culminated in a highly competitive Royal College of Surgeons Senior Fellowship in Robotic Upper GI Surgery. Today, I manage a high volume of complex emergency and elective cases in the NHS. For my private patients at the Wessex Nuffield Hospital, this extensive acute experience provides absolute peace of mind: whether you require a routine gallbladder removal or a complex hernia repair, you are in exceptionally safe, experienced hands.

As an active person myself, living locally in Chandler's Ford with my young family, I understand exactly why my patients want their hernias or gallbladders fixed: to get back to the activities, sports, and people they love, without pain or restriction. My goal is to get you there safely and efficiently.

Special Clinical Interests

Gallstone Disease: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (keyhole gallbladder removal) for biliary colic and cholecystitis.

Abdominal Wall Hernias: Advanced minimally invasive (TEP/TAPP) and open repairs for Inguinal, Femoral, Umbilical, and Incisional hernias.

Surgical Optimisation: Data-driven pre-operative risk assessment and recovery planning.

Advanced Techniques: Laparoscopic and Robotic-assisted general surgery.

Research and Academic Interests

In addition to my clinical practice, I am deeply involved in Surgical Data Science. In 2021, I completed a PhD in Cancer Sciences and Machine Learning at the University of Southampton. My research focused on using artificial intelligence to predict surgical outcomes and improve patient safety, supported by grants from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

I also serve as the Associate Medical Director at Medefer Ltd, overseeing clinical outcomes and quality for over 100,000 NHS patients. I bring this analytical rigor directly to my consulting room, ensuring my private patients benefit from the latest national evidence and highest standards of clinical governance.
